An Introduction to Lesley Harrison

Lesley Harrison, who is known for her emotional and accurate renderings of horses in pastel, is finally sharing her techniques in a workshop setting! Besides painting, Lesley has always loved photography and has had many years of experience being paid to photograph weddings, horse shows and do ranch photo shoots. Preferring to work from her own photography, she is also flown all over the country to photograph the animals she is commissioned to paint.  She has also been a staff photographer for two magazines, Equine Images and The Quarter Horse Digest

Wednesday morning students will meet at Spokane Art Supply and from there will travel a short distance to a nearby stable.  Lesley will first teach you how to obtain good photographs of your own as reference material for painting. She will also be able to advise you about cameras, lenses, angles of the horse and light to use to obtain the best photographs.

Thurs-Sunday will be spent on painting a horse in pastel.  This "hands on" instruction in the classroom will be of  Nate,  a horse that all of you will have had an opportunity to meet and photograph yourselves.

First time students will be asked to purchase a small start up kit which will have everything you will need to participate fully in the class.  It will include mounted velour paper and the basic pastels that you will need . Returning students will be given a list of the pastels that will be used in class and if you don't already own those pastels, you may purchase a small group of pastels to be used in the workshop.
